Lifting beam FEA using Tetra Solid Elements

lifting beamIn this example I have studied a lifting beam using Solid Elements.

Because the load cases, geometry and boundary conditions have a symmetry axis, the left side of the model has been replaced by boundary conditions.

The structure is stressed only locally and can be further optimized.

Working with gap elements

combined stressTo demonstrate FEMAP Gap Contact feature of Nonlinear Static Analysis a cantilever beam is used. One end is fixed and the other will be loaded with a force normal to the axis. The gap is small enough and during the deformation it will close and create a contact. Combined stress is displayed in the animation. This is an exercise presented in the software manual.

Large deformations non linear analysis

NLN beamFEMAP can support large deformation non linear calculations. To the right side of this post is a result animation of two beams subjected to moment perpendicular to the neutral axis. This is an exercise presented in the software manual (Large Deformation – Cantilever Beam). This is also a comparison test between standard and NASTRAN I-Beam. The nodes at one end are fixed and at the other end subjected to the load.

Ship side shell buckling check

A finite element linear static and buckling check has been done on a ship side shell. FEMAP software was used for modeling, analyzing and post processing. The von Mises Stress results are presented in the picture to the left. First buckling mode is displayed in the right picture. The lower part of the structure is fixed. Load has been applied on the upper edge of the model.
